Established
in September 2000, the Cowra Regional Art Gallery is a cultural facility
of the Cowra Shire Council. Originally managed by a voluntary committee,
the Gallery now has a full time Director and part time Administrator.
The Gallery is purpose built with high ceilings, track lighting, a large
flexible exhibition area and art museum security and environmental controls.
With its varied program of significant exhibitions, public
programs & growing permanent collection including the Calleen
Collection, the Gallery is regarded as an important regional arts facility which makes a significant contribution to the cultural life of Cowra and the region.
Program
The Cowra Regional Art Gallery offers changing exhibitions curated by
the gallery or derived from regional, state and national sources. These
cover the visual arts, crafts and design including historical and contemporary
themes and subjects. Other activities include public programs, workshops
and outreach projects for the enjoyment of the community and visitors
alike.
Retail Shop
The Gallery retail space is filled with interesting greeting cards from
major arts institutions, items often created by regional artists including
glassware, ceramics, jewellery and textiles as well as catalogues and
local history publications.
Friends of the Gallery and Volunteers
The Gallery is generously supported by the Friends of the Gallery and
volunteers who assist with a range of front of house and exhibition activities.
