Calleen Art Award 2022

The Calleen Art Award is open to artists across Australia and entries must be an unaided artwork in any painting medium including oil paint, acrylic or watercolour. The Calleen Art Award encourages originality, creativity and excellence in the visual arts.

The Calleen Art Award was founded in 1977 by Art Patron Mrs Patricia Fagan OAM and is made possible with the generous support of the Calleen Trust. The Calleen Art Award finalist’s exhibition at the Cowra Regional Art Gallery is a signature art event in the central west region of NSW.

This year the Gallery received 321 entries and 49 works have been selected as finalists by the pre-selection panel of art professionals. The selected artworks consist of a diverse range of visually compelling, thoughtful and challenging paintings. The winning work will join the Calleen Collection housed at the Cowra Regional Art Gallery and visitors to the Calleen Art Award exhibition can vote in the People’s Choice Award. This is announced at the end of the exhibition. 

The Cowra Regional Art Gallery is pleased to announce the winner of the Calleen Art Award 2022 is Canberra based artist Derek O’Connor for his painting Weather Report, 2022, oil on canvas. 

When visiting the exhibition visitors are welome to vote for their favourite painting in the Calleen People’s Choice Award 2022 (non-acquisitive). The winning artist will be announced at the close of the exhibition and will be awarded $1,000, courtesy of the Friends of the Gallery trust fund.
