Artist Statement

An archival photograph circa 1900 of wagon tracks to the beach was the stimulus for this painting.  The scrubby headland across which tracks pass became the tourist town of Caloundra, Queensland with Bribie Island beyond the ocean passage.

Having grown up in this place I found this image overwhelmingly poignant. It invited me to reflect on the Kabi Kabi and Jinibara people who were its inhabitants in a time before.  The tracks lead away to a time beyond.
