The Lachlan Valley Biennial Art Awards (LVBAA) was established as a stand alone exhibition project by the Cowra Art Group following over 20 years presenting exhibitions in association with the annual Festival of the Lachlan Valley (1986-1992) and the Cowra Festival of International Understanding.

The opening event including the announcement of the winners was broadcast online by the Cowra Regional Art Gallery (this was due to COVID-19 restrictions) on Wednesday 19 May 5.30pm and can now be seen on the Gallery website. Cr Bill West Cowra Mayor launched the exhibition. He congratulated the Art Group and the participating artists as well as acknowledging the artistic talent in Cowra and the region

“Walking in here it is quite inspiring and amazing to look at the work, not only of the art and the talent we have in the region, but to have it showcased in such a way, the diversity and the quality is outstanding. I would hope that when people come and look at this exhibition they would understand and appreciate the talent and the quality of the artists we have in our region.” said Mayor Bill West.

The 2021 judge was Emma Collerton, Curator. Bathurst Regional Art Gallery.  The judge selected  two co-winners of the Major prize and four highly commended.

“As you can see when you walk around the exhibition space there is so much diversity with the styles, the techniques, and the subject matter…. I had a very hard job, so I went to the committee and I said can I please choose two? And they said ok” said Emma Collerton.
