CALL OUT - Calleen Art Award 2022

Entries are now open for the Calleen Art Award 2022 acquisitive painting prize in any subject and style. The Calleen Art Award was founded in 1977 by Mrs Patricia Fagan AOM and is one of the richest art prizes for painting in regional NSW. Submissions are invited from artists 18 years and over from across Australia. Entries close 25 July 2022.

Selected finalists will be exhibited at the Cowra Regional Art Gallery from 9 October to 20 November 2022. The winner of the Calleen Art Award 2022 will receive $25,000 and the winning artwork will join the Calleen Collection at the Cowra Regional Art Gallery. A non-acquisitive People’s Choice Award of $1,000 is awarded at the end of the exhibition.

Baltic Mini Textiles

Launched in 1993 in Gdynia, Poland, the Baltic Mini Textile exhibition is one of Europe’s leading reviews of textile miniatures. The juried event is held every third year. It features artists from around the globe. The small scale (20 x 20 x 20cm) allows artists to experiment with complex, intricate techniques and use delicate and ephemeral materials. The collection of textiles on display demonstrates a diversity of techniques and fascinating artistic solutions. Toured by Warwick Art Gallery

The Collection in Focus: Women Artists

During the past decade the Cowra Regional Art gallery Gallery has collected an impressive array of works by prominent Australian women artists through donations, gifts, purchases assisted by the Friends of the Gallery and winners of the Calleen Art Award.

The exhibition celebrates the breadth and diversity of artworks the gallery holds in its collection of contemporary art by Australian women artists. Artists include Susan Baird, Jo Bertini, G.W.Bot, Judy Cassab, Dagmar Cyrulla, Sinead Davies, Peta Dzubiel, Rachel Ellis, Gladdy Kemarre, Joanna Logue, Margaret Loy Pula, Mandy Martin, Claire Martin, Jenny Sages, Wendy Sharpe, Christine Wrest-Smith, Naomi White and Zoe Young.

Dobell Drawing Prize #22

The Cowra Regional Art Gallery is pleased to be hosting the Dobell Drawing Prize one of the leading drawing exhibitions in Australia and an unparalleled celebration of drawing innovation and the enduring importance of drawing within contemporary art practice.

The touring exhibition is a curated selection of key’ works from the 2022 Dobell Drawing Prize showcasing expansive approaches to drawing by acclaimed and emerging drawing practitioners. The Dobell Drawing Prize is presented in partnership with the Sir William Dobell Art Foundation and  National Art School, Sydney. The exhibition is toured by the NAS.
