Young Archie entries now open + Young Archie Workshops

Young artists between the ages of five and 18 are encouraged to paint a portrait of someone special to them and submit an entry to the Cowra Young Archie Competition.

The Cowra Young Archie competition is part of the 2021 Archibald Prize Regional Tour that will be on display at Cowra Regional Art Gallery from Saturday 19 March until Sunday 1 May 2022.

The Young Archie competition is open to residents of the Cowra, Bathurst, Blayney, Cabonne, Orange, Weddin and Hilltops LGAs.

The finalists from each category will be displayed in the Cowra Library whilst other entries will be included in on online exhibition on the Gallery website.

Competition opens: Saturday 4 December 2021
Entries must be received by Friday 8 April 2022
Finalists will be displayed 22 April to 21 May 2022
Winners will be announced on Friday 22 April 2022

Prize: One winner from each category will receive $50 provided by the exhibition sponsor ANZ Bank

Summer School Holiday Workshops

Come to the Cowra Regional Art Gallery these school holidays for FREE Young Archie Portraiture Workshops. With guidance from Gallery staff, participants will create a portrait of a person who is special to them- someone who plays a significant role in their life. Finished artworks may be entered into the Young Archie competition, held in March-April, hosted by the Cowra Regional Art Gallery at the Cowra Library.

When: Every Thursday in January 10am-12pm (ages 5 to 12)
and every Thursday in January 1pm-3pm (ages 13-18)

Where: Nguluway Room next to the Art Gallery, 77 Darling Street Cowra

What to bring: A photo of someone special to you and a drink/snack. All other materials provided.

Limit of 10 participants per session.
