Anthony Cahill, Off their rocker, 2023, soft pastel, charcoal, charcoal pencil

Join a masterclass with Anthony Cahill to explore drawing with light and shade.

Come and learn from Blue Mountains-based artist Anthony Cahill. The workshop will explore the technique of Chiaroscuro drawing using Charcoal. Working off a theatrically lit installation of objects—both figurative and useful—Anthony will guide participants through the use of strong contrast between light and dark tone. Create volume, modelled form and shadow to enhance visual drama in drawn compositions.

Anthony Cahill has been exhibiting in commercial and public galleries in Australia and abroad since 1982. His work explores notions of Landscape and human presence within a contemporary representation of landscape painting. Anthony holds a Master of Fine Art from National Art School, where he also teaches as a Sessional Lecturer. He is represented by Day Gallery, Blackheath.

This workshop is part of the public program for The Good. It is a major new solo exhibition by artist Anna Louise Richardson whose practice is centred around rural life, embedded in the experience and drama of everyday reality. Working primarily in charcoal and graphite, Richardson’s work explores ideas of intergenerational exchange, parenthood and identity based on her experiences of living and working on a multi-generation beef cattle farm in rural Australia.
